TOP Enders had plenty to look at as Santa Clauses, reindeers and a lost Spiderman travelled through Darwin on motorbikes yesterday.
The escort was part of the annual Darwin Charity Toy and Tucker run.Organiser John Allwood said the event was a success with about 285 bikers - many from the Ulysses Club - having turned up."It was a bigger turn up than last year," he said. "But if it was just as good as last year, we would have raised about $2000 and a truck-load of toys."The ride was a major fundraiser for the Salvation Army's Christmas appeal. Each rider donated a toy or non-perishable gift.Money was raised through badge sales and sausage sizzles.Mr Allwood said it was the bike club's way of giving back to the community."We've been doing it since 1994," he said."We just do it every year also because it's a get-together of all the motorbike riders and a way of having a good time."The trip started at Casuarina Plaza about 4pm and went through the Darwin CBD before finishing at the Darwin North RSL at Marrara.Gifts will be distributed to families in Darwin and Palmerston.
